Leotards For Dogs?

You’ve Got To Be Kidding!

Nope, not kidding, and according to the company that makes them they are quite useful and fashionable. I’m not too sure about the fashionable part.

The puppy garment is the brain child of Tyson Walters. He has a big furry Saint Bernard, named Harley that sheds like crazy. Harley used to trash his house and his car every time they went for a ride. He looked for something to stop or at least minimize the problem, but he couldn’t find anything. That’s when he came up with the idea for “Shed Defender“.

It’s a doggie leotard. According to Walters they work really well. They do have their limitations, but they definitely help with the shedding problem. They also help with a few other things. They minimize the spread of dander for those allergic to dogs.

They also work similar to the Thunder Shirt to swaddle your dog which seems to help in stressful situations like storms. And if your dog has ever had stitches or a hot spot this would sure beat having to wear a cone.

It can keep your dog warm in the winter, and they look like a superhero! What’s not to like about that?

Shed Defender is quick to note that the product is intended to be worn for brief periods at a time, not always — and that dogs should be properly brushed after using it, as is recommended to maintain a healthy coat. The fabric allows enough airflow that overheating isn’t a problem (but it’s always a good idea to keep a dog indoors on especially hot days, anyway).

Oh, and you’ll need to unzip the relevant end when it comes time for a dressed-up dog to do his or her business outside.

“It is actually pretty easy to put on and very easy to take off,” said Walters.

“Every dog reacts differently to the Shed Defender, sometimes it can take awhile for dogs to get comfortable in any type of garment, including the Shed Defender. They might walk a little funny or pick up their hind legs when they walk, but just give it time and they will soon forget they are even wearing it.”

Don’t know if they’ll catch on or not, but you never know. If Paris Hilton gets one for her dog they could spread like wildfire. 🙂
